
Zhongwei Chen
Dr. Chen Zhongwei is a distinguished researcher in the field of electrochemical energy, known for his pioneering contributions to energy storage and conversion technologies. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, as well as the Vice President of the International Academy of Electrochemical Energy Science (IAOEES). Dr. Chen holds multiple prestigious academic and leadership roles, including the Director of the National Key Laboratory of Energy Catalytic Conversion, Distinguished Researcher at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Director of the Power Battery and System Research Center. He also serves as the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Advanced Materials for Clean Energy.His editorial roles reflect his significant influence in the scientific community, serving as Editor-in-Chief of the *Renewables* journal of the Chinese Chemical Society and Associate Editor of the *ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces* journal, among other editorial positions in leading international journals.
Dr. Chen’s research is focused on electrochemical energy materials and systems, with groundbreaking work in fuel cells, zinc-air batteries, lithium/sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, and hydrogen hybrid power systems. His innovations have reached leading international standards, contributing both to academia and industry. He has published over 700 scientific papers in high-impact journals, with more than 75,000 citations and an H-index of 140. His extensive contributions include co-authoring three books and applying for more than 150 patents globally. His work has also led to the establishment of high-tech companies in China, the United States, and Canada, driving the commercialization of advanced energy technologies.
Throughout his career, Dr. Chen has received numerous prestigious accolades. In 2016, he was awarded the “E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship,” one of Canada’s highest national awards. In 2017, he was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and received the Rutherford Memorial Medal from the Royal Society of Canada, honoring his exceptional contributions to advanced battery and fuel cell research.
